answered my own question. for some reason el.unbind() isn't
liked, but using el.unbind('event') does work.

you need to unbind the actual event that is used in tipTip. the
default is hover but it can also be set with activation:"click"
parameter on instantiation. So to remove the tipTip default

Just use $(".myElement").unbind() it works!!

Don't use $(".myElement").unbind() b/c it will unbind everything for that element. The question was unbind tipTip. So it if was bound on hover, be specific and unbind on hover.
